Often when parents ask students if they have homework, the youngsters answer a resounding No!  Are they being truthful?  Well, let's just consider for a second.  What is homework?  It can be a matter of reviewing, working on an assignment, or merely reading pages in a book.

So when "Little Johnny" or "Little Miss Shanika" says that he or she does not have homework, the parent should insist that the student reads at least ten pages of a book, or news paper, or magazine.  Reading may not be what the teacher has assigned for a particular night, but it is an excellent way to help a student become a proficient reader.

So when students declare that they have no HOMEWORK, parents should insist that they READ.

Reading Logs/Homework

Parents, is your child reading nightly?  Well, five nights of reading is a requirement.  Each student is supposed to read for 15 minutes and have his or her reading log signed by an adult.  Please make sure your child is reaching his or her reading goal.
